Simplex CL is a new triple layered variety from DSV UK. It is a Clearfield® variety with a very high gross output and seed yield. Simplex CL carries the RLM 7 gene for resistance to phoma stem canker as well as pod shatter resistance giving added protection approaching harvest. Simplex CL has high levels of vigour in the autumn and grows away quickly in the spring.

Simplex CL is a new triple layered variety from DSV UK. It is a Clearfield® variety with a very high gross output and seed yield. Simplex CL carries the RLM 7 gene for resistance to phoma stem canker as well as pod shatter resistance giving added protection approaching harvest. Simplex CL has high levels of vigour in the autumn and grows away quickly in the spring.

Simplex CL has very good resistance to lodging compared to some of its competitor Clearfield® varieties. It is a very vigorous variety with a superb agronomy package. In times of drought, due to its vigorous growth, it has potential to compensate with assimilation from its leaves and stems. Simplex CL offers medium maturity, a stiff stem and high scores for disease. Its disease package offers robust resistance to a range of diseases including a 6 for light leaf spot and 9 for stem canker. In recent tests it has also performed well for Verticillium wilt resistance. DSV’s breeders class it as a ‘stay green’ variety meaning where many varieties’ stems will discolour at maturity Simplex CL will stay green. It has also been noted as a variety which tolerates late frosts better than some other varieties.
