DSV’s Champion winter wheat has been named one of the top varieties on the Irish Department of Agriculture’s 2026 Recommended List – achieving an impressive 107% of control yields despite the challenges posed by this year’s growing season.

Champion’s success extends beyond its yield, with strong provisional disease resistance scores – including 7 for mildew, 6 for septoria, and 6 for fusarium ear blight. These results position Champion as one of the most resilient and high-performing winter wheat varieties for 2026.

Dr Tim O’ Donovan, Seedtech Technical Director, says, “We’re thrilled to see DSV Champion holding its position as a leader in this year’s Recommended List. In Ireland’s challenging climate, septoria tritici is our most important foliar disease challenge and having a good resistance score is a key look out when choosing a variety”.  Add that to DSV Champion’s impressive yield in trials and on-farm and you can see why it is a popular variety over here”.

“It reinforces the combination of its robust disease resistance and impressive yield potential, which continues to make it a go-to choice for Irish growers.”[TO1]

In terms of Uk performance, Champion has consistently proven itself in a variety of growing conditions. Its inclusion in the AHDB Harvest Results, as of 4 September, reported its consistent performance, with the strong four-year data backing up its reliability.

These results clearly demonstrate its high yield potential, alongside stable agronomic traits, making it a trusted variety for UK wheat farmers seeking long-term consistency and profitability.

As the 2026 growing season approaches, DSV Champion stands out as a top choice for growers seeking a variety that offers both high yield potential and solid disease resistance.

The variety’s proven track record of strong performance year after year provides farmers with the confidence, they need to maintain a profitable and sustainable wheat operation.
