Contra CL joined the new AHDB Spring Descriptive List in 2021. The variety is now the highest yielding Clearfield on the list and represents a step forward from our established Clearfield variety Click CL.
Contra CL has now been tested in official trials in the UK for 5 years. It has proven to have a stable yield (92%) and a high oil content (43.9%). It has a strong, vigourous growth habit ensuring quick leaf production.
It also offers an improved drought tolerance which can increase the variety’s chances in lower rain fall planting years. Contra CL has a medium late score for maturity ([5]) and a medium – early ([7]) score for flowering. It has a relatively short stem which ensures an easy harvest.
